Smiley Lake House – Khao Sok

smiley lake house

Smiley Lake House is going to be one of the most unique breathtaking places you will ever stay at. I never knew such a place like this existed. An experience like no other away from the hustle and bustle, away from society, no phones, no internet. Thailand’s Secret Gem!!!

Location

Away from normality. Smiley Lake House is located on 20 -50 meters of water at Khao Sok National Park, Cheow Lan Lake. It is only accessible by a long tail boat from Ratchaprapha dam.

Room – D9

There are three bungalow types. Our one had two double mattress and a bamboo ladder to get you to the top floor for a fantastic view from your bungalow. All the bungalows are fitted with a fan, private toilet and shower. Unfortunately our fan did not work, the toilet and shower were situated at the back of our bungalow with a stunning view of the lake and jungle where you can spot a few wild bores. At the front of each bungalow you have a little porch with two chairs and your very own tube and kayak that you can take out to explore more of the lake on your own. There are a few cracks in the floor so do not accidentally drop your belongings because it’s long gone if you do.  The rooms are fitted with long glass windows, with a view of the lake from every angle of the room.

Bar & Restaurant

Depending on what package you have booked determines how many meals are included with your stay at Smiley Lake House. The food is freshly prepared right on the lake at their restaurant. There is a different variety of food to choose from as it’s a buffet. Who doesn’t love an all you can eat buffet! The owner Mrs Phaiwan is a lovely lady, if you let her know of any allergies you have she will make sure to cater for your needs. There is cold water for you to fill up your bottles and take back to your bungalow, along with tea and coffee. This is available all day every day. There are other beverages and snacks at a cost. We bought a few cocktail buckets which was well worth it. It was bloody strong for 300THB.

Staff

This is a family run business and everyone is lovely and helpful, especially Mrs Phaiwan who I was in contact with from London in regards to our booking. The tour guides make your trip extra special with their banter (humour).

Summary

We spent one night in this tranquil place and I can honestly say it wasn’t enough time. We could of easily stayed another night there. That’s definitely the plan next time we return. It was worth every penny! If you want to know more about the package we book I will be writing a separate blog on this or you can watch our vlog. Hotel 4/8 Thailand.
