Visiting A Free Hot Spring – Foss

Iceland is renowned for its abundant geothermal activity, including numerous hot springs scattered across the country. We found the perfect spot overlooking the beautiful town of Akureyri. Foss is only a 9-minute drive from Akureyri Tourist Information Centre.

Visit The Waterfalls OF God – Godafoss

Located Just 30 minutes from Akureyi, Godafoss is in the glacial river Skjalfandafljo just off the Ring Road. Learning about its historical significance as the place where Iceland embraced Christianity in the year 1000 was quite fascinating and also explains the meaning of it’s name “Waterfall Of The Gods”.

Visit Lake Myvatn – Hverfjall Crater

Lake Myvatn, a tranquil body of water surrounded by pseudocraters and fertile wetlands, unveils its scenic allure. The drive takes you through vast lava fields, reminding you of the region’s volcanic origins. The Hverfjall Volcano Crater is believed to have been created during a volcanic explosion, which invites adventurers to step into the heart of a volcanic saga.

Visiting Mud Pots – Namaskard (Hverir)

Hverir Geothermal Area, nestled near Lake Myvatn, the air becomes charged with the scent of sulfur, a prelude to the geothermal wonders that await. The ground beneath your feet trembles with the energy of the Earth and the first sight that greets you is a surreal landscape dotted with bubbling mud pots. Hverir is a geothermal place under the Namafjall mountain in the Krafla volcano fissure zone. At a depth of 1000 meters, the temperature is above 200°C. The water flowing below the surface is quickly heated and returns to the surface, transforming into steam.

Whale Watching

Whale watching in Akureyri is an enchanting and unforgettable experience, offering a unique opportunity to witness the majestic marine life that inhabits the Arctic waters surrounding Iceland. Just steps away from the Akureyri Information Centre you can spot bottlenose whales, humpbacks, and mink whales. You can even head to the Foss (free hot spring) and soak in a warm geothermal bath while trying to spot whales.
