Peak District National Park Itinerary

The Peak District is an upland area in England at the southern end of the Pennines. Mostly in Derbyshire, it includes parts of Cheshire, Greater Manchester, Staffordshire, West Yorkshire, and South Yorkshire. It has some beautiful spots to see and to wild camp. We took this time out of our busy 9 to 5 jobs just to relax and eat good food. This is our Peak District National Park Itinerary.

Day 1 – Wild Camping

We headed 3 hours 15minutes away from London to the Redmires Plantation Car Park. As we arrived really late in the evening, it was pitch black and we could only see one camper van. So we thought it was only going to be us parked here but as it hit 10/11 o’clock more campers arrived. It was very peaceful and we couldn’t wait to see the view in the morning.

Day 2 – Bakewell

After waking up with a fantastic view of the Redmires Reservoir we got ready and headed to the only town in the Peak District, Bakewell to get their famous Bakewell pudding for breakfast from The Old Original Bakewell Pudding Shop.

After roaming around this very small town which is really dog friendly we headed 15 minutes down the road to Baslow where we had a reservation for lunch at The Cavendish Hotel. We had the most amazing Laurent-Perrier Champagne & Seafood lunch with the most spectacular views overlooking the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire Estate. The service was also fantastic.

After lunch, we decide to take a spontaneous drive around and see what the peaks has to offer. We ended up near the Blue John Cavern where we took a stroll to the top of the hill which had a 360 view overlooking Winnats Pass and on the other side was Mam Tor.

We then headed off to look for the next best spot to car camp, Errwood Reservoir.

Day 3 – Winnats Pass

Errwood Reservoir was pretty deserted at night but we were grateful for how peaceful it was. Until the morning the park patrol car came by a few times and we thought we should make a move. So we parked up further down and hoped over the wall to the reservoir to enjoy a morning tea before going to the one and only instagramable spot at Winnats Pass. Parking was a bit dear as it was a fixed fee and we were only going to be here for a few minutes, and we were not going to Speedwell Cavern. We also visited Snake Pass for a scenic walk along Ladybower Reservoir.

40 minutes away was Shrigley Hall Hotel & Spa, the moment we have been waiting for. It’s been so long since we’ve been to a spa, it was unfortunate that all the rooms were booked out but the spa was incredible here. Hands down this has got to be the best spa we’ve been to and it’s also great value for money. It was spacious and to top it off it had an infinity pool overlooking the Peaks where we spent our evening watching the sunset. The perfect end to our day.

Day 4 – Home Time

What felt like a long and weird night in the most awful hotel I’ve ever stayed in, in England. The pictures were very deceiving, it was like a horror hotel. No water, tea, or coffee in the room. It was just awful and we could not wait to leave the Hotel Mercure Sheffield Kenwood Hall & Spa.

The Peak District is a beautiful place but if we are comparing it to the Lack District and Scotland, they win. Will we visit again? Yes, but probably just for Shrigley Hall Hotel & Spa. The Peak District is a great place for people that want to get into the whole outdoor nature lifestyle due to the beautiful scenery which is only a short drive from towns. That infinity pool was the highlight. England needs more affordable places like this.
