Our first impressions were very friendly staff and the hotel looked modern and clean. The President Park hotel is rated as a 4 star hotel. What we did not know was that only half of the hotel is rated 4 star, there is two buildings to this hotel. The second half of this hotel was literally across the road from the main building but with a completely different vibe.. It was old and had a dark feeling to it. On the plus side the hotel offers a free shuttle service to the nearest shopping mall and the BTS sky train.
Location
I must say this hotel is in a perfect location, its only a 3 minute drive from the Emporium shopping mall and access to the BTS sky train. it also has a variety of local shops like Family Mart, 7 Eleven, Tesco Lotus and Big C. The famous Temples of Bangkok are only a 20 minute drive away in a Grab taxi. Bangkok is one of the busiest cities in the world and although the hotel is situated right in the centre the street is not as busy as other streets near by.
Room – Budget Double
When you book a budget room in a 4 star hotel you still expect it to be at a certain standard right? This room was far from a 4 start. The towels in the bathroom were folded and ripped and left on the side off the sink, it came with your basic amenities which did not smell very nice. The paint work was chipping of the furniture and the complementary bottles of water were dusty almost as they have been there for a decade.
The room was big and spacious but the lighting was very dull. There were huge windows in the room but unfortunately the view was of the main building opposite. It also had a fully equip kitchen that did not look clean enough to use.
Facilities
The hotel offers a free Tuk Tuk service which runs every hour, taking you to the nearest train station and shopping centre which is a great service if you are not familiar with the area. There is a gym in the main building and a swimming pool that is being renovated at the moment. We were told that there is a restaurant in the main building but unfortunately we did not come across this so we cannot comment on that.
Summary
I think this one is easy for us, we wont be staying at the President Park hotel again. I feel like we can get better value for money else where. Overall the staff was friendly and helpful and the free Tuk Tuk service was a great help to us , which we used several times. This was only the first hotel we stayed at in Thailand (1/8) and we are excited to see what follows.
