4 Day Inside Guide To Morocco – Cheap Travel
Marrakesh, where to begin with this one of a kind, diverse, cultural city…
When to visit Marrakesh?
November is a great time to visit the unique city of Marrakesh. The weather is just right, not to hot or too cold and you can get great deals on flights and hotels around this time of year. We paid around £250 for flights and all inclusive hotel for the both of us. We stayed at the beautiful 5* Eden Andalou & Spa which features its own private water park, unfortunately this is closed in November as it’s not peak season but have no fear there are so many things to do and see all year round. There’s no way you can get bored in Marrakesh.
Haggling? (don’t get fooled)
My other half absolutely sucked at haggling and agreed to prices that were outrageous, luckily he had me to save his pockets.
The 5 RULES to HAGGLING :
- Always haggle
- The vendors will ask you how much do you want to pay? Always say a lower price than you are willing to pay.
- Tell them the last vendor offered it to you for a cheaper price.
- Tell the vendor you don’t have a lot of money and its your last day.
- Use smaller notes to pay.
First mistake I made was booking the Ouzoud Waterfall tour online before I got to Marrakesh. It had cost me £25pp and that doesn’t seem bad for a full day tour but if you wait and book when you get there you can get a much better deal. There are tour vendors on every corner in the town centre so be sure to haggle a few deals.
What is there to do in Marrakesh?
Shop till you drop in the Souks of the Medina, its easy to get lost in the small back alleys and charmed by the snake charmer.
- Quad biking through the desert, this is perfect for getting away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
- Climbing the Atlas Mountains, but before doing so why not stop for lunch on the valley on your way up.
- Visiting Ouzoud Waterfall, right at the very top you can get harassed by some cheeky monkeys and when you reach the bottom you can take a man made boat to get up and close to the waterfall.
- Visiting the local Berber village for mint tea and home made honey with bread.
- Riding the smelly camels (if that’s your thing, just make sure its ethical)
- Learn how the famous Tajine pots are made.
What to eat and drink in Marrakesh?
Always look for the busy restaurant because they are probably busy for a reason.
- Msemmen is Moroccan pancake and is eaten with butter and honey. I absolutely loved this! I loved it so much I ate it everyday for breakfast.
- Morocco mint tea, where ever you go you will be offered mint tea. On the day tour or after your meals it’s apart of their tradition.
- Tajine, there are two types – vegetable and meat. Words can’t describe this dish, if I start explaining the succulence of the meat and how it just absolutely melts in your mouth then I’m gonna start salivating… wait why is my keyboard wet?… You just have to try it!
- Marrakesh is well know for the super cheap and fresh juice. You will pay as little as 5 Moroccan Dirham (£0.40 GBP) for a glass of juice.
Summary
We’re grateful we got to experience this gorgeous city full of architectural marvels. Although 4 days is definitely enough time to explore the city our mission is not complete, we will be back to see the rest of Morocco and what it has to offer.
Loved this post guys! Very insightful and really helpful tips for those who have never been before.
