Inside guide to Magaluf, Majorca – Out season
We travelled to Magaluf, Majorca in March paying around £100 per person which included flights hotel and transfer for 3 nights for 4 of us. Is that a bargain or what?
What is there to do in Majorca?
Magaluf is fairly quiet during the day, rarely anyone on the beach and a few reps offering party deals for the evening. And yes the reps managed to win us over and we were bought into this deal offering unlimited drinks all night and a free t-shirt for €20. I mean how can you turn down an offer like that? Right you can’t! When we got to the bar that evening we were given our free T-shirts and when we asked for drinks there was a bottle getting passed around with strangers drinking straight from it with their mouths and passing it to the next person… that was your unlimited drinks. We decided we didn’t want to catch herpes so we gave it a miss. This may not be the case with all the deals offered by reps but I’d definitely be wary next time. Drinks are relatively cheap in Magaluf so you won’t be spending much either way.
Palma is the capital and is home to The Cathedral of Santa Maria. This Gothic Roman Catholic cathedral is the city’s most iconic buildings and it costs only €8.50 per adult for entry. If your not interested in going in, it is completely free to wonder around the outside of it.
Rent an electric scooter or quad bike from Bike King and cruise down the beach strip of L’Arenal exploring the bars and restaurants serving delicious paella and souvenir shops.
Hike to Castell de Bellver where you can enjoy the stunning view overlooking Palma. Castell de Bellver is also one of the few circular castles in Europe. Entry fee to the castle is €2.50 per adult, which we think is worth it.
What to eat
I think it goes without saying… when in Spain, eat paella! It really does live up to expectations. We got paella from a few places but I think the most tasty was from a restaurant called El Mundo.
So if you’ve taken our advice and rented an electric bike to cruise down the strip in Palma, then one of the restaurants you definitely have to check out is Restaurante Sirocco where they serve the best fish.
If your looking for cheap and cheerful head down to KFC, a lot of people don’t know this but fast food joints like KFC and McDonald use different cooking methods depending on where you are in the world. The KFC in Spain is definitely better than what we get in the UK.
Where we stayed
We stayed at Apartmentos Vistasol which is a 3* basic hotel. It has easy access to Magaluf’s party strip and public transport. However we found the cleanliness of the hotel to be below general standards. There were dirty dishes in our kitchen, old food in the fridge, hair on the beds and floor and the list goes on. Staff were not helpful or friendly. But i guess my drunken partner attempting to jump over the hotels barriers and breaking it didn’t help their attitude towards us. You can read more about this hotel in our hotel review.
Summary
Would we go back to Majorca? Yes, but probably not anytime soon. There is a lot to see so next time we’ll go in season and come better prepared with a travel plan. With this holiday we kinda just winged it, sometimes that works out but unfortunately it just didn’t for us this time.
