2020 Brought us to do the weirdest things, we never thought sleeping overnight in our car was going to be so much fun, it gives you so much freedom! But of course, there are pros and cons to this so do your research as it can be illegal to car camp in some places, especially if you have not got permission from the landowner.
Isle of Portland, England
Portland has a barrier beach called Chesil Beach which joins it to the mainland. It takes about 15 minutes to drive from one end to the other. This small part of the British Isle is surrounded by the sea and amazing views as far as the eye can see. Where we parked was not permitted for overnight camping but there were loads of other camper vans there so do it at your OWN RISK! Check out our vlog here! Wast Water, Lake District
Wast Water is a 3-mile long lake situated in the Wasdale Valley of the lake District. At night you will hear nothing but silence. It’s so peaceful and tranquil. There are several spots you can park up at, all offering a magnificent view. England’s highest mountain, Scafell Pike is situated right here. As I said before these spots have clear signs of “no overnight camping” so it’s at your OWN RISK! We were absolutely fine for the night and there were other people around. If the park rangers did ask us to leave, then not far from there – just a drive through the mountains you could probably find somewhere else to park. This place is about an hour away from any town. Edinburgh Beach, Scotland
So this spot is absolutely fine to park at. As some of you may know it’s legal to wild/car camp in most parts of Scotland. We did not actually know where we were going to find somewhere so close to Edinburgh city to car camp as we just winged it that day. When we arrived it was pitch black, we didn’t really know where we were and what was surrounding us, but when we woke up in the morning we were not disappointed. We were parked up right next to the beach. I must say this seemed like a pretty popular spot as there were boy racers blasting their shitty music till around 2am. Banavie, Fort Williams
This place reminded me of being in a small village in the french alps. I really enjoyed spending the night here, it was like being in a fairy tale. This place is totally legal, there are bins on both sides of the entrance and it’s free. No one will disturb you as it’s out of the way but not far from the public roads. This spot offers a view of the highest mountain in the UK, Ben Nevis. It was pretty cool looking up at the snowy mountain meanwhile, it was warm and sunny from the bottom. Rigg View Point, Isle of Skye
After driving through Skye for about an hour we saw loads of spots to park up at, but there were just too many people. Honestly when we car camp we don’t mind having other people around as it can feel safer but too many people means too much noise. So we finally found the perfect spot which was located right between The Old Man Of Storr and Kilt Rock Waterfall. We were parked up on a hill overlooking the sea and other islands.
